Abstract

Throughout the first decade of s. XXI, various South American political units, especially those of South America, tried to consolidate their democratic political regimens. In this context, armed forces assumed a new role. In this regard, during the nineties of s. XX considerably increased military involvement in peacekeeping missions under Units Nations Organization (UN), which meant a new mission for the old "military party". This situation continued, with different emphasis and acceptance, in the first decade of this century. Following this line, this article aims to know what were the reasons that drove Argentina to participate in the (MINUSTAH) regarding, in firstly, the most important academics works and, in the work of leading academics and, secondly, the parliamentary debate that preceded the adoption of the law - Law 25906 - authorizing the participation of this country in that mission.
