Abstract

Chile, like many Latin American countries, has experienced an increase in demand for air travel, due mainly to the country's economic growth and increased competition in the industry in terms of price and coverage. The isolation conditions presented in the southern area, where there is great distance between the centers of industry, services and trade, and rural-urban centers of the extreme locations makes it impossible to have a constant and direct connectivity of the territory. The current geographic isolation presented by the island of Chiloé has generated, among others, the need to analyze the feasibility of building an airfield in Dalcahue, to modernize the transportation system connectivity and establish the area as a direct target nationally. This article presents the results of a study of demand, in order to estimate the potential use of the aerodrome in terms of passengers per year and assess the appropriateness of the project.
