Abstract

Perestroika triggered a process of social, political and economic challenges that removed communist systems of Eastern Europe. The region began a transition towards joining the globalization process led by the United States, European Union and Japan. This transition has had a bitter social and economic impact. In terms of international politics, this realized a realignment of global alliances that are still being played. Along this paper we analyze this historical process and its consequences to the present.
